Akshay Kumar donates 1.5 crores to build a home for Chennai transgenders
Akshay Kumar who is currently acting in Raghava Lawrence's Laxmmi Bomb, has donated Rs 1.5 crore to build a home for transgenders in Chennai. The movie Laxxmi Bomb is the remake of the Tamil blockbuster movie 'Kanchana' which was directed by Lawrence also featured him as a protagonist in the film. The movie features Akshay as a transgender.
Raghava Lawrence who tweeted about the news said, "I would like to share one good news, Akshay Kumar sir is donating Rs 1.5 crore for building a transgender home for the first time in India." He added, "During Laxmi Bomb shoot I was talking to Akshay Kumar sir about the trust projects and transgender's home, immediately after hearing this without even me asking he told he will donate Rs 1.5 cores for building transgender's home."
He further added, "I consider everyone who helps as God, so now Akshay Kumar sir is a God for us. I thank him for lending his huge support for this project. Our trust next vision is to uplift transgenders and provide shelter for them all over India with Akshay Kumar sir's support. I thank him on behalf of all transgenders. We will inform the bhoomi pooja date soon. I need all your blessing."
Lawrence who heads a charitable trust named after him wanted to celebrate 15 years of its foundation by initiating a new project. The new project will provide shelter for the transgender community.
Raghava Lawrence said that during the making of his film Kanchana he happened to meet a lot of transgenders and hear their stories. He said that the community is left to suffer a lot because parents abandon their transgender kids at a young age. These kids are left to sleep on railway stations, bus stands, subways and on platforms.
He added, "I was explaining it to Akshay sir one day, and he asked suddenly 'can I build this building?' I was shocked because we were planning to go to big people and ask them, even doing a show through which we could collect funds, but here was Akshay sir. These kinds of people are God. The place is yet to be ready."
